Do people who buy electric bikes cycle more?

Research, Institute of Transport Economics, Norway, 2020: People who buy an electric bike more than double their use of bicycle for transport. "We found that people who purchased an e-bike increased their bicycle use from 2.1 to 9.2 km per day on average..."
 

 
In volume 86 of „Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment“, the Institute of Transport Economics, Norway, published in the September 2020 issue the results of the research „Do people who buy electric bikes cycle more?“. 

Highlights
In their research, Aslak Fyhri and Hanne Beate Sundfør highlight the following results:

  • People who buy an electric bike more than double their use of bicycle for transport.

  • Trial schemes and data from people who purchase an e-bike provide the same results.

  • Studies without control groups may wrongly attribute seasonal mode share changes to e-bikes.
